Did she look like a JW? Maybe she was one of those not all there people who hang around gas stations hitting people up for money. She could have found the tract and was working it into her scam. -

Once Upon A Time in Hollywood - a Personal Memoir
by Terry inonce upon a time in hollywood (a brief memoir).
for about two years, 1980-82, i worked for creative galleries in culver city, california which was very close to mgm studios.. creative galleries offered original art at wholesale, retail -- and (thanks to me) rented art to movie studios.. i had become friendly with two set decorators, joe kroesser and his partner, mel johnson.
one afternoon their car broke down in front of the antique guild nearby and they wandered in looking for a telephone.i chatted with them for over an hour and we quickly became symbiotically chummy.they needed artwork and i needed to sell artwork.. joe and mel suddenly dreamed up a little business scheme.apparently i was being granted an inside glimpse of how hollywood really works.the two guys worked for mgm on the tv show chips, joe and mel set up their "side" business as a kind of 'broker.".

Great memory Terry. I was a big fan of Cassandra Peterson back then and still am. Eric Estrada not so much. Your mention of Antique Guild brought back memories. I bought a lot my furniture and other things at the Orange County location back then. -

Would You Shelter An Illegal Alien Seeking To Come To Your Country?
by minimus ini know many people support leniency for illegal aliens.
they feel terrible for them and often feel laws should be changed so we can welcome people who are not as fortunate as we might be.. would you allow an illegal alien to reside with you in your home, with your family?

I think this question is a bit of a set-up. It's like asking would you bring homeless people in your home to live with you? Just because I don't want them in my house doesn't mean that I think they should be treated like animals or even less than a lot of animals with no rights. Just because I don't want illegal aliens living with me doesn't mean that I can justify them being abused. I live in California I come in contact with them. They are human beings. They just want a better life for their family or not to starve to death. They're not doing any thing we would do. If you or your family were starving here and there was food and work in Mexico I'm pretty sure I know what any of us would be doing.

Who Really Was Satan?
by ZindagiNaMilegiDobaara indont you think that satan was a pomo ?
when you read in the genesis account : "at this the serpent said to the woman: 'you certainly will not die.
5 for god knows that in the very day you eat from it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like god, knowing good and bad.'".

I agree Finkelstein, it makes no sense to punish them if they didn't know the difference of good from bad till they ate the fruit. But then again it make no sense to punish all future generations of mankind because of something a couple of people did that didn't know any better. It's took me a long time but now I realize that none of it makes any sense.

Enjoyed the Memorial
by ScottyRex inprobably not a popular opinion on here....and haven't been actively attending meetings since 1988....(i know i know a submarine attender) however thoroughly enjoyed attending this evening...was good to see lots of people i remember whilst growing up in this faith, they were genuine and the whole atmosphere was one of love.
sure if i suddenly wanted to become active again and didn't change my lifestyle they would drop me like a bomb.....however i haven't and won't and they didn't and don't.
this works for me.. i cannot demonize the witnesses on what i have seen tonight.

I refuse to participate in any event that serves wine and crackers without cheese. Especially one that expects me to turn down the wine and crackers they're passing around. I know the Memorial is the highlight of the Watchtower year but even as a witness it was always as boring as hell to me.

Do You Think The Obama Administration Should Be Investigated For How They Treated The Trump Accusations?
by minimus ini hope that the trump administration looks into obama , clinton and all the other players for trying to usurp the legitimacy of the trump presidency..

I think Trump should get on with his "everyone's going to have healthcare and it's going to be so cheap" promise and stop wasting his time being so vindictive, petty and small but we all know that will never happen.

Has Your JW Background Benefited You In Any Way?
by minimus ini would like to think there was some good that resulted from our being a witness at one time..

Possibly. I once had a old friend I grew up with tell me he thought me getting involved with the JWs may have saved me from where he thought I was heading with drug use. He smoked more pot than I did but I liked a lot of other drugs. I think I would have out grown the drug thing anyway but who knows.
Getting burned by the JW Armageddon BS and finding out that most of what they believed (and what I believed) was nonsense made me skeptical of other religions and gave me the ability to pick and choose what parts of a religion I wanted to accept and what parts I wanted to reject instead of feeling obligated to accepting an entire package. It also gave me the ability to dump a believe once I found out it wasn't true. Sometimes a slow process but always heading in the right direction.
I also think it may have helped me to become a pretty effective sales person. I've spent half of my adult life in sale so being able to approach people try to sell them something and accept rejection were good things to learn. I've known other xjws who have benefitted in this way from WT door to door training. If you can approach people and try to sell them a fantasy paradise afterlife then selling insurance, furniture, real estate etc..isn't quite as hard.

So What Drastic Money Change is Next?
by OnTheWayOut inokay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.
they reduced printing of mags.
they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.

Very interesting information on the group DNCall. I remember the sleeve or insert for the record had a picture of all the members on it. I couldn't find it but I'm pretty sure it's around somewhere. One the back up singers you mention went to the congregation I went to in Anaheim in the mid to late 70's. I was friends with her and then with her second husband when she remarried but lost contact with them like I did with everyone else when I left the organization around 80 or 81.

I'm not sure if it was the same group you're thinking about Dagney because I happen to know that you knew or still know someone that was in the group that did this record. It probably never came up in conversation because I heard that the Watchtower put the kibosh on it and also because of another sad circumstance.
The song on the other side of the 45 was Lola Lee and was secular and a better song.
